What Goes Bump in the Night
Growing up with a father who disappeared on missions and returned with fragments of stories shaped everything about how I write. The darkness was never abstract — it was real, and it was close.
"The writer must write what [s]he has to say, not speak it."
— Ernest Hemingway
Writing is not a quiet occupation. It is a relentless pursuit — of truth, of character, of the dark corners of human nature that most people prefer to leave unexamined. These musings are Sterling's attempt to make sense of the journey.

My musings are pesky—day or night, loud whispers while on a hiking trail, or must-be-remembered thoughts jotted down on my grocery list. A tap-tap on my shoulder until I set pen to paper (most of the time) or fingers on the keyboard. I write what speaks to my heart, and contemporary suspense thrillers beckon to be written!
I am a ferocious reader of many genres: classics, poetry, mystery, thriller, fantasy, sci-fi. Since the age of five, I love how printed words transport me to a new location, discover a new culture, and expand my human awareness. My love of writing sparked when a teacher assigned each student to write and illustrate a book at the age of eight.
I created this virtual space to share it with fellow creators of the prose and anyone who loves to read. Some of my writings inspire thought—a realization that we are all one human family on this big blue ball that whirs in the galaxy. And some writing is for the love of being swept away in a story.
As a visitor here, you are part of a fantastic community that loves prose. I am honored that you stopped by; if you wish to connect, please send me an email.

The research often leaves me shaken. Calling military contacts, tracing criminal networks back through decades — there is a cost to knowing. But the drive to understand keeps me digging.
I don't outline so much as I follow. My characters lead and I write as fast as I can to keep up. Sometimes they take me somewhere I never expected — and that is always the best part.
